About That ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Remake…

It’s still alive kicking. Today it’s kicking actors.

About That ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Remake…

No one knows when Joel Silver’s threat to remake Escape from New York will come to fruition. Months go by with little word on the film. We all think maybe we can finally stop hiding. Then the shadow of a rumor falls upon us and we scurry away.

Today is one of those days. Starlog claims to have inside info on the three actors currently being eyed for the part of Snake Plissken. Number one is Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam. I’ll stop for a moment while you go break stuff.

Number two is Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead fame. The other number two is Dan Stevens, who we’re probably all about to fall in love with in The Guest.

I think Jon Bernthal would be awesome. But don’t listen to me. I have weird opinions when it comes to this whole thing. For one, I think remaking a movie where New York gets turned into a prison is a great idea. But more than that, I think the original is greater in theory than in practice. I mean, I like it a lot, but the last few times I watched it, nothing really felt as great as I wanted it to.

Charlie Hunnam as Plissken, however, irritates me. I enjoy Hunnam, but this doesn’t seem like a character that would be well-serviced by the smarmy jock thing he has going on.

How wrong am I? Battle it out in the comments!
