J.K. Rowling’s THE CASUAL VACANCY To Casually Hit HBO

You may have heard of J.K. Rowling. She wrote the Harry Potter books, some of them while living in her car with Jewel and Tyler Perry. The Harry Potter books were pretty popular. There were seven of them, but they split the last book into two books, so it's really eight. And then there are tons and tons of coloring books and sticker books and stuff like that, so the series is probably more like a thousand volumes long. Then they added a extra book, The Casual Vacancy. It didn't have anything to do with Harry Potter, though, and only sold several million copies as a result.

Now that book will be a three-episode miniseries. The adaptation itself isn't really news, however. Instead, today's big deal is that the miniseries will air on HBO in America. UK viewers will watch it on BBC One and probably wonder how much better the same show would be if it were airing on a TV channel that's not actually TV. Here in America we won't have to live with such doubt.

I never read The Casual Vacancy, but I assume many of you have. The adaptation will be written by Sarah Phelps and directed by Jonny Campbell. I don't know who those people are. The project shoots this summer. I am slightly familiar with the season.

Evan Saathoff's photo About the Author: Evan Saathoff (known also by such aliases as Sam Strange and Tyler Perry) is News Editor of Badass Digest. He lived in Taiwan for two years and can order several food items in Chinese. Movies are fun, but he prefers Jesus Christ. Close personal friend to the Paranormal Activity Demon. Absurdly handsome. Weird wiener, though.
