Drew Goddard, who co-wrote and directed the brilliant Cabin in the Woods, is in talks to write Daredevil for Netflix, one of the shows that's part of Marvel's new package deal with the streaming service. Goddard has plenty of TV experience, and he worked with Marvel Godfather Joss Whedon on both Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
This is great news! Goddard is not just a terrific writer, he's a mensch. What's even cooler is the reveal that each of these series will have one writer behind them, creating a sense of cohesive continuity from episode to episode. Having one wirter on each series will also help give each series a voice all its own, making each a unique experience. Goddard is a great choice because he's funny and smart, and he won't just mire Daredevil in painful, tedious grimdark. He understands how lightness and happiness makes the heavier stuff all that much heavier.
Goddard is still in negotiations, but between his relationship with Whedon and his lifelong love of Daredevil (talking to Collider, Goddard once said: “You’re talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his wall while growing up... Even when I was 18, I still had the blood red door with the, ‘I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear.’"), this feels like a no-brainer.
