We suspected that The Good Dinosaur was in trouble when it was announced that the director had been replaced, but did we ever guess it was in THIS MUCH trouble? Disney has moved the next Pixar film from May 2014 to November 25 2015, giving a ton of time to fix what now feels like a big mess.
This means that 2014 will be the first year since 2005 without a Pixar film. Back in the pre-2006 days Pixar wasn't loading up their schedule with sequels, so there were some gap years. But for the last seven years - most of the lifetime of the company's core demo - there has been a Pixar film in theaters every single year.
That move impacts Pixar's release calendar in general. Finding Dory, the sequel to Finding Nemo, had that 2015 slot, and has now been moved to June 17, 2016 to make room.
At least The Good Dinosaur is still happening. Remember Newt, the movie Pixar scrapped entirely?
