A Moving Short Film: AFTER SUICIDE

Hulk shares Shawn Bannon's beautifully honest short.

SUICIDE IS AN EXTRAORDINARILY DIFFICULT THING TO EXPLAIN.

AND IT IS AN EVEN MORE DIFFICULT THING TO CAPTURE.

CHANCES ARE THAT A GOOD DEAL OF YOU HAVE HAD TO EXPERIENCE IT IN SOME FORM. FRIENDS. CLASSMATES. POSSIBLY LOVED ONES. SOMETHING ABOUT SUICIDE JUST SEEMS DIVORCED FROM OUR PRIMARY INCLINATION. SURE, WE ALL HAVE OUR DIFFICULTIES AND DIFFERENCES, BUT THE URGE FOR SURVIVAL SEEMS TO BE PROGRAMMED INTO OUR DNA. AND TO THINK OF SOMEONE SUDDENLY NOT HAVING THAT URGE IS... WELL IT'S HARD TO UNDERSTAND. AND THUS WHEN THE WORST ACTUALLY HAPPENS, IT CAN TRULY DEVASTATE US. THE FEELINGS OF THOSE LEFT BEHIND AFTER A SUICIDE GOES BEYOND MERE SADNESS. IT TAKES OVER EVERYTHING. THE GUILT. THE PROFOUND SENSE OF EMPTINESS. IT ALL ADDS UP TO THE EPITOME OF LOSS.

WE PUT UP A LOT OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONTENT HERE ON BADASS. WE COVER BIG MOVIES, COMICS, FUN STUFF, CULTURE PIECES, SEXISM, HOMOPHOBIA, EXPLOITATION MOVIES, AND HULK ALWAYS LOVES HOW DEVIN CAN UNEARTH THESE FASCINATING BITS OF OBSCURITY. SIMPLY PUT: ONE OF THE THINGS HULK LOVES ABOUT THIS STUFF IS HOW WE HAVE ROOM FOR THE WHOLE SPECTRUM OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE. AND SOMETIMES THAT INCLUDES A DEEP REFLECTION ON SOMETHING OF THIS MAGNITUDE.

IN THE LAST FEW YEARS HULK'S GOTTEN TO MEET AND BECOME FRIENDS WITH A SUCH A WIDE RANGE OF TALENTED, KIND PEOPLE. ONE OF THEM IS SHAWN BANNON. HE SHOWED HULK AFTER SUICIDE (THE DOCUMENTARY SHORT LINKED ABOVE) ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND, QUITE HONESTLY, IT WAS THE KIND OF THING THAT STUCK WITH HULK FOR A GOOD LONG WHILE. HULK COULDN'T REALLY FORM THE THOUGHTS, HULK JUST HAD TO GO OFF AND "EMOTIONALLY SIT" WITH IT. THE FILM JUST CAPTURES SOMETHING SO INNATELY TRUE ABOUT THE SPECIFIC LOSS OF SUICIDE. IT CAPTURES NOT JUST THE THOUGHTS THAT RUN THROUGH ONE'S MIND, BUT ALMOST THAT PARALYZING SENSATION... THE INABILITY TO SPEAK. IT EMBODIES THE MEDITATION AND REFLECTION. AND THE WAY IT'S FILMED, HULK HAS NO IDEA HOW TO SAY IT OTHER THAN IT REVEALS THE FACT THAT, AFTER THE LOSS OF SOMEONE DEAR, YOU BECOME INNATELY AWARE THAT WE ARE JUST PEOPLE, MADE UP OF CARBON, LOOKING THROUGH OUR EYEBALLS.

HULK THANKS SHAWN FOR SHARING THIS STORY.
