Thematic sequel to O.
You've probably already looked at a few reviews for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby and decided if you want to see it or not. I liked it a lot, but it's an understandably divisive film. My review won't go up until Friday morning, I'm thinking probably about 12:01am-ish.
For those of you who want to see the film but feel woefully unprepared for its massive thematic content because you have yet to read the book, never fear. There are plenty of aids out there. Like Wikipedia. Or you could play this Great Gatsby Nintendo game. Or you could just watch G. That's what I would do.
G is basically an "Urban" retelling of The Great Gatsby starring Richard T. Jones, the really evil guy from Why Did I Get Married? as Summer G. (aka Gatsby), Blair Underwood, the really evil guy from Madea's Family Reunion, as Chip Hightower (aka Tom Buchanan), and Andre Royo, who hasn't played a villain in a Tyler Perry film yet, but you may recognize as Bubbles from The Wire, as Tre (aka Nick Carraway).
I'll be looking out for this movie, but for now the trailer combined with my minor familiarity of the Gatsby story tells me everything is lined up for a pretty faithful adaptation. I'm surprised no on thought to do this earlier than 2002.
Thanks to Jordan Hoffman for the heads up.
