Studio Ghibli's first live action effort available online for free!
So this is totally in Japanese with no English subtitles. For that reason, the first couple minutes of this short might be a bit difficult to watch. But don't let that deter you. This brief Kaiju piece is about as cool as it gets.
Produced by Studio Ghibli and with a creature designed by Hayao Miyazaki himself, Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo is now available for you to watch online. The monster is great and all kinds of stuff blows up. Short of procreation (or practice), I can't think of a better way for you to spend the next nine minutes.
Now if only we knew what the female narrator was saying. There's a prequel connection to Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind going on here, so maybe that has something to do with it. The short was commissioned for museum exhibition and supposedly has the Fukushima disaster in mind (I think? It's kind of hard to say), which would certainly make it more thematically interesting. It seems like there should be new Kaiju films every week with all the crazy stuff going on in the world, but that's sadly not the case.
