Dane DeHaan, fresh off his riveting turn as Second White Soldier in Lincoln, has been cast to play Harry Osborn in Amazing Spider-Man 2. That was the role played by James Franco in the original films, the son of Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin. Harry is one of Peter's best friends, but the madness that runs in his family tears them apart until Harry takes on his father's supervillain mantle. At least that's how it's gone in the past.
DeHaan is best known as the lead kid in Chronicle, the one who uses his super powers for bad. He's got a squirrely look about him indeed, but he's missing Osborn's magnificently kinky hair. Will no one ever get this right on film?
I'm sure DeHaan will be fine, but who really cares? This is the sequel to the very bad Amazing Spider-Man, writtem by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Why would you have any hope for this thing? Walk in expecting the worst and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised when it's just sort of terrible.
