The gang at Mondo and I share some obsessions, but none as strongly as our love for the classic Universal Monsters. I'm going to be spending the day today shooting a special episode of my YouTube show dedicated to the monsters, but that pales in comparison to Mondo's big event: they're doing a gallery show dedicated to the monsters in Austin.
But wait! That's just the tip of the iceberg. They have a collection of great artists contributing to this art show, but most amazing of all is this fact:
Rick Baker has done two pieces.
Drew Struzan has done a painting for each of the monsters.
WOW! Now, these are original art works, which means they're going to cost thousands of dollars. But damn if that ain't worth the dough. If I had that kind of money I'd be putting cash on the barrel for some of this stuff, sight unseen.
There will be other prints available for us 99%ers. One of them will the lovely Creature from the Black Lagoon print above, by Australia's own Ken Taylor. It'll be printed in an edition of 430, and will go for $50. Keep an eye on @MondoNews for further updates.
And if you're in Austin, you're invited to the show! See the invitation below:
