Shut-ins who have trouble getting past a fantasy that has grown bloated, awful and destructive. Am I talking about churchgoers or Star Wars fans? This church thinks the two can be one and the same.
This is a Halloween decoration at an unnamed church, and it's actually pretty delightfully funny. The image comes from the blog of Matthew Paul Turner, who lives in Nashville, but I haven't been able to figure out just where the church itself actually is.
Christianity should be appropriating Star Wars more. The dualistic nature of the Force and the Jedi is probably largely influenced by Zoroastrianism, an ancient religion that itself influenced the Abrahamic faiths - leading up to Christianity. The battle between Jesus and Satan owes more than a little debt to the conflict between Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu, which is manifested as the fight between the light and the dark sides of the Force.
As a side note, I find the stuffed Jesus and Luke to be adorable.
