We Need To Talk About Moby Dick In Space

Lynne Ramsay's ambitious scifi movie gets backing.

We Need To Talk About Moby Dick In Space

It was nine years between features for Lynne Ramsay. She had Morvern Callar in 2002 and then nothing until last year, when her shattering We Need to Talk About Kevin came out. She hadn't lost a step.

We won't have to wait as long for the next film from her; she's lined up a Western, Jane Got A Gun, starring Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender, to shoot in January. And after that she'll be making a huge change of pace - going into space for Mobius, a retelling of Moby Dick in deep space. This time the crew of a spaceship is helpless as their mad captain takes them on a hunt for an alien entity.

In other hands this would sound like a SyFy original movie (I think it may have already been a SyFy original movie), but with Ramsay - and her Kevin co-writer Rory Kinnear - on it I expect Mobius to be quite unlike anything the 'Moby Dick in space' logline indicates. Mobius is still a little ways out; I imagine Ramsay won't get started for a year or so.
