Allison Goertz Sings About Being Less Elitist

Can you be elitist without being mean about it? Allison Goertz explores the question in song.

Allison Goertz, aka @CossbySweater, is an internet friend of mine. She's an incredibly talented singer-songwriter who tends to do songs about nerdier things (Dungeons & Dragons, Pee Wee Herman, stuff like that). But what sets Allison apart is the thoughtfulness of her songs, and I really love this one, Open Letter to Myself (Elitism)

I'm an elitist. And proud. But that doesn't have to mean being a big jerk about it all the time, although it's damn easy to blow people off based on their taste. There are friendships I've never had because someone's taste in music was so off-putting to me. Obviously there's the flip side, where you have that magnetic moment with someone when you realize you have the same taste, but that's easy. The really grown up shit is accepting someone else's love of something you hate.

And god knows I struggle with that all the time.
