Sam Raimi's prequel to THE WIZARD OF OZ debuts footage at Comic-Con.
The Disney presentation for Oz the Great and Powerful opened with an unusual reminder of what a great director Sam Raimi is. The greatest-hits reel, featuring the Evil Dead films, Spider-Man films, Quick and the Dead, Darkman and more, was like a nudge in the ribs. 'Remember how great this guy is? A bunch of you dipshits have been trash talking him, but he's the realest of deals.'
What followed was a quick teaser - attached below - and a fast Q&A. Raimi revealed we shouldn't expect characters like The Tin Man or The Scarecrow in his film, and that the slippers remain silver (as they were in the book, unlike the ruby in the 1939 movie).
One thing that was clear from the footage: there's a ton of CGI and Raimi is going bright, colorful and crazy. Flying monkeys, nasty toothed fairies, little China girls, and lots of evil witches - here's the teaser for Oz the Great and Powerful.
