Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the guys who brought you this year's very good 21 Jump Street, and they're also the guys who brought you the beloved Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Their next project takes them out of R-rated comedies and back to animation. That film is Lego: The Piece of Resistance, a high-brow title for a movie about building blocks.
Chris Pratt is in talks to play the lead character. Here's what it's about and what he does:
Pratt will play Emmet, an ordinary, law-abiding, rules-following, perfectly average Lego mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary MasterBuilder. He's drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
Some of those strangers might be Batman and Superman. The DC characters will be appearing in the movie, voiced by Will Arnett and Channing Tatum respectively. It's a nice bit of corporate synergy for this Warner Bros film to feature some Warner-owned DC characters, but will we see other Warner folks show up? Harry Potter seems like a possible cameo, as he is in the Warner Bros family and is featured in a Lego video game and building sets. Lord of the Rings is also in the Lego family as well as the WB family - might Frodo or Gollum pop up?
More than that, might Star Wars or Indiana Jones characters show up? Both are very popular Lego properties. It'll be interesting to see if competing studios play ball with the Lego folks.
