It's Memorial Day, which means summer's officially here. Celebrate with one crazy trailer!
It's Memorial Day and summer's semi-officially here. (Thanks to global warming, the Summer Solstice always seems a bit anti-climactic these days.) And while summer movies often mean huge explosions, massive box office and lots of popcorn, sometimes they literally mean movies about summer. So here's one of those!
Savage Steve Holland followed up his debut Better Off Dead the very next year with One Crazy Summer (1986), starring his lanky muse John Cusack. Like Better Off Dead, the film's a wacky mess of '80s absurdity, but it's certainly got its charm. Cartoonist Hoops McCann has to create an illustrated love story for his application to RISD, but he's bereft of inspiration. He spends the summer in Nantucket with a bunch of unlikely-named goofballs and Demi Moore, who plays a rock star on the lam from a motorcycle gang or something. Moore has a song on the soundtrack!
The trailer is narrated by an extra-typical Bobcat Goldthwait whose star was on the rise thanks to the success of the Police Academy movies. In his Godzilla suit!
