THE GREAT GATSBY Trailer Is Wonderful, Old Sport

Baz Lurhmann finally gives 3D a reason to exist with his adaptation of the high school English class classic.

I went to Vegas last month to see footage from the The Hobbit in 48fps. That disappointed me, but what blew me away at CinemaCon was the presentation of footage from Baz Luhrmann's decadent adaptation of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic of the Roaring Twenties. The footage was sumptuous, exciting and - most of all - in astonishing 3D. The impact that people claimed to get from Avatar? That's what I got watching a lavish party at Leonardo DiCaprio's Long Island estate.

The trailer is here now, and while it isn't in 3D it will begin to give you a sense of the visual style of the film. But even still this trailer doesn't contain the best moments, the most astonishing visual flourishes that truly floored me. I think Luhrmann's film will be a sumptuous spectacle that demands the biggest, best screen possible. I can't wait to see it.
