The full trailer for THE CAMPAIGN brings funny business, baby punching.
The other day Mitt Romney had a town hall meeting where a lady in the audience talked about how Obama should be tried for treason. Romney didn't say anything to distance himself from that. Florida Representative Allen West said he had a list of dozens of Democratic Congressional communists. He said that last month, not in the 1950s.
What I'm trying to say here is that modern politics have completely entered the age of absurdity, where crazy things happen and are said all the time (See: Bachmann, Michelle and Santorum, Rick) and nobody bats an eye. In fact the news media keeps trying to do this 'even handed' thing where they treat the absolutely batshit rants of one side as if they're legitimate and not, as I said, absolutely batshit. This means that politics is getting really, really hard to satirize.
Enter The Campaign. I like what I see in this trailer, which pits Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis (seemingly playing a riff on his Seth Galifianakis character) against each other in a bitter and silly election campaign. The bit with the baby punching at the end sold me. It's directed by Jay Roach, who can be really, really mediocre, but I'm hopeful.
