Bring Your Own Tissue in This Week’s Holy Hunter of Music Videos

Today we've got vids from Explosions in the Sky, White Mystery and Stealing Sheep.

Bring Your Own Tissue in This Week’s Holy Hunter of Music Videos
Formed in Austin, post-rock five piece Explosions In the Sky have always had an all-embracing narrative style about them rife with music video potential, so it may come as a surprise that the masterstroke below is only their third video ever. This time around they’ve wisely entrusted local Austin filmmakers Peter Simonite (Emmanuel Lubezki’s sidekick/2nd Unit Cinematographer on Tree of Life) and Annie Gunn to interpret “Postcard from 1952." Elucidating upon actual photographs plucked from the era, the seven-minute long opus crescendos with precisely one minute left to dry your eyes before you weep in public (again).

Let me stop you before you mistake the following stop-motion animated ginger for mirroring Brave steez, because that’s actually an accurate portrayal of White Mystery’s human female form. The Chicago-based garage rock sibling duo take the lead as puppets in their Penelope Gazin created video for the track “Rapid Overdrive.” And they would like to thank their eleven-year-old cousin Fernanda for helping with the pyrotechnics. We could all give her a high-five if she had hands.

Liverpool-based three piece Stealing Sheep’s infectious melodies stick harder than that godforsaken goose wallpaper every distant relative still has in their kitchen (seen around the :27 mark). We have Rivkah Gevinson to thank for that, as she’s at the animation helm in their video for a track off their upcoming debut Into the Diamond Sun (set for late May release). Creepy credit also due to the mostly faceless paper dolls and button floods in time with a sound I’ll only refer to as “folktronica” from the safety of my own home.
