See PACIFIC RIM Recreate Tokyo In Toronto… Complete With Spinners? (Actually, No Spinners)

The first images of a set from Guillermo del Toro's giant robots vs. giant monsters movie appear.

UPDATE: Thanks to Steve from Collider for letting me know that the cars and guys in suits in the video below are from Total Recall, which also shot in Toronto. Nice work, CBC!

Guillermo del Toro is in Toronto filming the biggest movie he's ever made. Pacific Rim - shooting under the name Still Seas, Torontoians - is Warner Bros' mega blockbuster for next summer. Based on Travis Beacham's astonishingly detailed script, Pacific Rim will find Kaiju (ie, giant monsters) fighting Jaegers (ie, giant robots) for the domination of the world. My understanding is that GdT has done some work on Beacham's script, but the draft I read was pretty spectacular.

The CBC stumbled upon an outdoor set for the massive movie; the production had transformed a downtown Toronto street into Japan. Pretty convincingly, this gaijin must say!

Looking at the video I noticed these. Are they flying cars in the Blade Runner spinner style?
