Peter Weller’s STAR TREK 2 Role May Be Revealed

We now know (almost for certain) that Benicio Del Toro was going to play Khan in Star Trek 2. But we also know that there was a secondary villain, someone older and who is a mentor to Khan. Now, thanks to the sharp eyes at Slashfilm, we might know that is the role that Peter Weller is playing.

It's a JJ Abrams movie, so nothing will be certain for a while, but Slashfilm noted this quote from Weller's agent in an EW article:

I do know that it’s a substantial role and that Peter is playing a C.E.O.

As noted by Slashfilm, CEOs are usually evil in movies, so he could be the older villain. Maybe Weller's company salvages the Botany Bay.

But what's interesting is that Star Trek is set in very egalitarian economic future. In fact I'm not sure that we have seen ANY corporations in the Trek future; we have seen businesses and businessmen (most of whom have been depicted as grifters), but I can't recall a single CEO character ever - at least not in canon.

So does this mean that Star Trek 2 will be doing at least one new thing and showing us the economic side of the Trekverse? I wonder if this vision of the future will be as positive as Roddenberry's. After all, that's a big part of the appeal of Star Trek - that it all turns out OK for humanity.
