Countdown To DANCE WITH DRAGONS: Brienne Of Tarth Art

The fifth book in George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire hits stores in less than a week (for those of you who aren’t familiar, this is what Game of Thrones is based on), and I’m psyched. Almost psyched enough to FINALLY plow through the final tedious pages of A Feast for Crows*. I’m definitely psyched enough to share this artist rendering of Brienne, the Maid of Tarth, found on SuperPunch.

Brienne is a major character in the series who will be introduced in season two of the show. She’s a tough character for a number of reasons, but adapting her will be hard because she’s often described as ugly and mannish, two things TV viewers don’t like watching. Will the show pretty her up?

What do you think of this rendering by Rory Phillips? Is that the Brienne you saw while reading?

* Seriously, this book is killing me. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just that it has no momentum and every chapter feels like it should have been a sentence long. Bloat of the most extreme kind - it isn’t even like interesting character work is being done. The stuff that Martin gets across about the characters could and should be done much more succinctly.
