Four Minutes of Cosmic, Epic, And Maybe A Little Silly GREEN LANTERN Footage

Finally, proof that GREEN LANTERN isn’t a generic superhero movie. Big, sweeping space fantasy premieres in this footage. But is it too silly for the common man?

Four Minutes of Cosmic, Epic, And Maybe A Little Silly GREEN LANTERN Footage

And it’s big. Hundreds of Green Lanterns, much of the footage is on Oa, Parallax shows up - and the scope of the menace is indicated, as we see Parallax bearing down on an entire city full of innocents. An entire Coast City full of innocents!

Here’s a lower quality embed.

Below are some captures and my comments.

[caption id=“attachment_10805” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“Parallax! The yellow fear entity, introduced in recent comics runs, attacks Abin Sur, mortally wounding him and forcing him to find a replacement. This creature design is weird and almost silly, and to me it is the epitome of the comic book-y design of the film.”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10804” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“I like how, as Hal says the Green Lantern oath for the first time, his eyes slowly change color.”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10803” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“A problem: the mask looks bad. I think the FX in this film could be a problem in general - lots of cartoonishness in this footage - but the mask is especially distractingly bad.”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10802” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“Green Lanterns! The entire Green Lantern Corps appear in this movie, and they're awesome. Although, again, this shows up some of the FX issues - half of GREEN LANTERN is essentially an animated movie. Will audiences go for that?”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10801” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“More Lanterns. Hal looking better without the mask.”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10800” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“More Lanterns! It's been a while since a movie had a varied enough design to make a STAR WARS-level of toy saturation seem reasonable. This is that movie.”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10799” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“Mark Strong with CRAZY eyes as they not-yet evil Sinestro. I liked him in the footage. A lot.”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10798” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“More Lanterns! I know some of you can name all of these guys, as they're all characters who have been in the comics.”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10797” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“More Parallax! I think this frame could be spoilery, based on my set visit, but without context it just looks bonkers. Like big space fantasy, the kind of movie we have not yet had in the superhero era.”][/caption]

[caption id=“attachment_10796” align=“aligncenter” width=“568” caption=“This is all third act stuff. Parallax unleashed on Coast City. According to the story boards I saw he really fucks shit up, too. This isn't like what Mongul did to Coast City, but it's a pretty huge deal. And this is just the beginning of the climactic fight, which gets big enough to justify the huge space fantasy of previous scenes.”][/caption]
